The Last of Us is an action and adventure game full of zombies and an amazing story. Players are tasked with making choices throughout the game that can significantly change the story. Many consider the game challenging and there are numerous weapons to use and enemies to overcome.
Characters
Unlike many other zombie games where you play generic characters, the two main characters here have strong personalities and go through many trials and tribulations. The main character is Joel, a smuggler who is used to violence and surviving in the zombie-filled wasteland. The other character is Ellie, a young girl who is immune to the zombie virus.
Joel has been tasked with smuggling Ellie safely to Fireflies so that a cure can be created to save the world. You will be controlling Joel for most of the game and he's prepared to mow down everything in his path. Ellie is primarily controlled by the computer, but there will be a few times where you take control.
Meaningful Choices
Many games promise meaningful choices but they rarely amount to anything substantial. The Last of Us is different. Throughout the game Joel will be tasked with making decisions about how he treats Ellie. He can either be focused on his job and show that he doesn't care about Ellie, or he can open up and be a supportive figure for her.
This won't affect the ending itself, but it does change how events unfold in the second half of the game. Be sure to make the right decisions and things should turn out well for your character.
Realistic Environment
The game tries to depict what the world would look like if a zombie apocalypse came true. Unlike the shambling corpses found in some other games, these zombies run right towards you and try to kill your character. You'll have to be fast and accurate with your gun to survive the wasteland.
While zombies are the most common enemies, they aren't the only thing you'll be fighting. The military is out to cleanse the world and they will kill anything to avoid risking infection. There are also violent gangs patrolling the world trying to get all the resources they can.
Puzzles
While there is plenty of shooting and fighting, The Last of Us also also a fair number of puzzles that you must solve to complete your quest. You'll have to be smart and observant to overcome these challenges. The puzzles are realistic and hard enough to require some thinking, but not so hard that you give up and stop playing.
Crafting
There is some limited crafting in The Last of Us. While there aren't that many crafting items, the items you can make are very useful and they don't require you to farm an excessive number of ingredients. If you prefer crafting that is straightforward and simple, then this is perfect.
